Many of our customers had bad luck hit on the 13th. Fortunately, we were able to get them back up and going without too much trouble.
First off we had a consultant who's system failed to boot, and there was a lot of work to get done, including over the weekend. Previously we had setup some backup imaging software and we would be able to get her back to the night before. So we came ready with replacement hard drives. It turned out that the system had dual hard drives and ONE of them was bad, but not her boot drive. But the bad drive was preventing the system from booting. So with a bit ore rearrangement we got her up and going, Whew!
Another customer had a power surge in the early morning such that the ups covering their server was still off. And when powering the server up, there was some strange sequence of blinking LEDS. We were able to talk them through on the phone for what to do. Oh and also, their copier which is used as a printer over the network also had a fault from the power surge, and a special kind of reboot was required.
Finally, another customer had lost internet, and it was due to bad phone lines providing the Verizon DSL number within his building. It's likely the lines will get fixed Monday, and then we'll have them confirm things are working again.
